Upcycle an old book and breathe new life into it!
In this 2-day workshop, we will be creating a wonderful “Junk Journal” from a hardcover book.
We will use all sorts of papers, including but not limited to: junk mail, scrapbook papers, vintage sheet music, book pages, paper bags, magazine pages, envelopes, ledger paper, children’s book pages, graph paper, and whatever you can think of.
The process begins the moment you choose your book, and Kat will take you through all the steps to deconstruct your hardcover book, determine the size of your pages, decide the order and placement of your pages, how to stitch the “signatures” (the sections of your chosen pages), and a variety of techniques for embellishing your journal. On Day 1 we will learn about taking out the pages of text and reinforcing the spine. We will be creating our signatures from a large variety of papers Kat will bring with me, including sheet music, maps, book pages, vintage yearbook and catalog pages, and more, to be ready for the new signatures. On Day 2 we will be finishing up our journals by embellishing the pages with collage, stencils, stamping, doodling, painting, adding pockets and tags, and whatever else you’d like to add.
